The Monferrato of Piemonte
Piemonte, though less publicized than Tuscany or Provence, is famed throughout the world for its fine
food (especially truffles), wonderful wines and splendid vistas. It is a land of profound history, and living
traditions. The 2006 Winter Olympics gave the rest of the world a glimpse of Piemonte which we hope
will inspire many curious travellers to come for a closer look. Our houses are located in the Monferrato,
the heart of this beautiful region.

Antique Fairs
Within a few kilometers of either house, are literally hundreds of ancient villages and historic towns to
explore. There are wine cellars, markets, Romanesque churches and baroque villas, Roman towers and
medievel castles. These immediate beauties of the Monferrato, Langhe, and Roero can be seen in short
excursions of a morning or an afternoon: Asti, Alba, and the surrounding countryside —Barolo, Barbaresco,
Stupinigi, Pollenzo, the Spas of Aqui Terme are all within a 50km radius. The list of places to discover is
long and our guests are continually adding to it!
Day tripping: There are many other wonderful places in the neighboring counties of Piemonte, Lombardy
and Liguria which deserve a full, but easy, day to fully appreciate: Turin, the Alpine resorts and parks,
Milan and Bergamo, Portofino on the Ligurian coast, Nice, Bologna, Lakes Maggiore and Orta, for just
a few examples.
Side tripping: Other legendary places which can be easily reached for a sidetrip or a weekend: Venice
and the Veneto, Florence and Siena, The Riviera of France, Provence, Switzerland, the Cinque Terre
of Liguria, Lake of Como.
Things to do:
It has been our happy experience that the type of traveller who finds us—a bit off the “ beaten track”, does not
come armed with a checklist itinerary. Some of our guests come following a special interest; a love for fine wine and
foods, for history, or tracing family origins—others, tell us that they simply want to relax, and absorb the slow pace,
and courteous lifestyle of Piemonte.
In Monferrato there are: tours to take, cooking lessons, wine tastings, Italian language teachers, gelati to sample,
castles to visit, caverns to explore, markets to browse, truffles to hunt. There are pools, thermal spas, tennis courts,
golf courses, bikes to rent, mountains to climb, bocce and tamburello to learn. There are the Palios, village festivals,
jazz concerts, lyric opera, and evenings of classical music in castle halls and hilltop chapels. We can introduce you,
make some reservations, point you in the right direction…or, just let you discover Monferrato in your own way.
