San Martino Alfieri
The Cottage in the Vineyard stands at the highest point of this pretty castle village. Located halfway (15km)
between the cultural and gastronomic centers of Asti and Alba, San Martino is on the western border of the
Monferrato, where it meets the Langhe and Roero regions. The village of 600 residents provides essential services:
bank, post, weekly doctor and pharmacy, market, church, cafe, trattoria, nursery school, feed store, hairdresser,
and an excellant pizzeria. Most other needs can be met in the larger town (5km)of San Damiano. The 17thC.
baroque castle at the center of  San Martino is home to the prestigious Marchesi Alfieri wine estate. The lands
surrounding San Martino Alfieri are cultivated in Barbera grapes, as they have been since the Middle Ages—
producing some of Italy’s finest wines.
